New Launch: Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition For Windows
Bitdefender is a well-known antivirus provider loved by individual customers and business owners. Bitdefender is the best internet security product with all the cybersecurity protections. Most customers want to stay 100% secure, it's effortless to use on all devices and operating systems, and it's cheaper than most other brands.
Bitdefender was perfect against all kinds of malware due to its cloud-based virus engine; it didn't slow down the computer even during complete system scans. Also, Bitdefender has some of the best web protection, detecting more counterfeit and risky sites than built-in protection from Chrome, Firefox, or Edge and anti-phishing protection from other antiviruses.
Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition
Last year, security company Bitdefender announced that it would retire Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition in 2021. Three months later, the company released a new free product called Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition. In a surprise move, Bitdefender just released a new free antivirus product for Windows after outlawing the old one three months ago.
The company introduced the release of Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition on the company blog. The blog shows that the program is built in from the beginning. According to Bitdefender, Bitdefender Antivirus Free" provides advanced features, functionality, and a better customer experience than the previous free version."
The free part of the Bitdefender website doesn't list the new product yet. You have to visit this link to open the page with the download link. The download is small, but the installer needs an Internet connection and will download over 500 megabytes when run if you allow it to.
The program requires a Bitdefender account. So, the sign-up and sign-in form is displayed on the first run. Customers who don't want to create an account can uninstall the antivirus product immediately after installation as there is no alternative to using it without an account.
The new antivirus offers Outlook and Thunderbird email protection, custom scanning schedule options, and exploit detection features per Bitdefender. The security program protects against advanced threats, according to Bitdefender. The Bitdefender Antivirus Free includes antivirus protection, scanning of devices, web protection, and advanced threat protection. Many features, like ransomware remedies, are only available in commercial editions.
The interface is easy to use, but many options are closed to free customers. The dashboard displays two actions, Quick Scan and System Scan, which are available in the free edition, and three, Vulnerability Scan, VPN, and SafePay, which are not. There are several upgrade buttons in the interface, and choosing any of the locked options will also display upgrade options. Also, customers can be notified about unique provides and recommendations by default, which can be disabled in the options.
Bitdefender Antivirus Free provides basic protection against computer viruses, malware, rootkits, and emerging threats. It is lightweight and unobtrusive, partly because it doesn't pack on extras like identity and privacy protections that other devices can offer and somewhat because it lacks some automated features and support options that Bitdefender's premium antivirus provides.
Pros:
Less is more: Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition is refreshingly free of "additional" features and tools that make some apps cumbersome and confusing for non-experts.
Ease of use: Bitdefender's compact main interface is a glorified system tray pop-up. It can toggle off Virus Shield and Auto Scan features, access an alternate My Bitdefender account, open Logs, manage Events and Quarantine lists.
Auto Scan: Bitdefender's proprietary Auto Scan feature saves time and resources by high-risk focus areas. You can disable Auto Scan in the Configuration area of the interface.
Virus Shield: Optional Virus Shield scans files, web pages, and data in real-time to keep malware away.
Cons:
Incompatible: Bitdefender Antivirus Free does not share power with other antivirus freeware such as Microsoft Security Essentials.
Installation Problems: Bitdefender's installer offered to remove conflicting programs, reboot, and restart setup, but it had to reboot and finish installation manually.
Conclusion
When Bitdefender introduced the Bitdefender antivirus free as a solution, it received a lot of backlashes in the end. Many customers would not have taken the announcement badly if it had waited until the latest free product was ready.
Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition provides basic protection against certain types of threats. It uses the same antivirus engine as the paid products. Free trial options are available for customers who want to test out additional features without spending money. This program may be an option for customers who don't mind regular reminders about missing features and paid upgrade options.
Many free antivirus solutions provide almost as many bells and whistles as premium packages. Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition is on your shortlist if you want reliable antivirus protection that doesn't require much attention.
